Yolo County Information:
Davis (formerly Davisville) is the most populated city in all of Yolo County with more than 70,000 people calling it home year round– and close to 10,000 more that live on campus while attending the University of California at Davis.
Davis developed into a proper town in 1868 when it opened up its own Southern Pacific railroad depot, the town didn’t become incorporated onto March 28 of 1917 and from there it grew and grew. Always a major contributor to agricultural policy, veterinary care and animal husbandry throughout the state of California, the University of California at Davis was originally the University Farm for the University of California.
Located just about 11 miles west of Sacramento (and only 70 miles northeast of San Francisco), both Interstate 80 and State Route 113 will help get you to both of those major Californian cities. Traffic, unsurprisingly for a city this size with such a major metro community just 15 minutes east, can get pretty crazy at certain points of time throughout the day and there are a fair share of traffic accidents, injuries, and fatalities unfortunately.
According to the Office of Traffic Safety in California, Davis had a total of 220 victims killed or injured in traffic collisions in 2015 (the last year of the rankings currently), making it one of the safer cities in all of California but certainly one that has its fair share of traffic issues to contend with.
Only seven of those injuries or fatalities involved motorcycles, but 58 of those incidents involved bicyclists. Davis is a very bicycle friendly community, with many in Davis that commute to Sacramento (just 11 miles away) choosing to take their bicycles into the city and back home again rather than add to the gridlock and pollution that can be caused by taking their automobiles.
Sixty-seven of those accidents involved automobiles moving at higher rates of speed, seventeen of them occurred at night (between 9 PM and 3 AM), and nine of all of those incidents highlighted above involved hit and run drivers. Davis sits smack dab in the middle of the state as far as traffic incidents and statistics are concerned. Roads are relatively safe, especially at night, and while Interstate 80 and State Route 113 can get pretty hectic around Davis there are more dangerous stretches of both of those roads located throughout the rest of Yolo County.
If you have been injured in Davis, Winters, Woodland, West Sacramento or anywhere in Yolo County, call Michael Rehm to discuss your options. (916) 476-9781.
